Da Nang
vietnam Vietnam’s third-largest city, Da Nang is the economic powerhouse of central Vietnam. After a long period of slumber, the city is once again awaking and has been given a total makeover in the past few years. With new roads, new bridges and new buildings, it is starting to act like a city of its size, although with Hue to the north and Hoi An to the south, it’s never going to make the major league for tourism.

Danang Cathedral
Known to locals as 'Con Ga' Church (Rooster Church) because of the weathercock on top of its steeple, the candy-pink Danang Cathedral was built for the city's French residents in 1923. Today it serves a Catholic community of 4,000 and it's standing room only at High Mass. Mass is held from Monday to Saturday at 05:00 and at 17:30 and on Sunday at 05:00, 06:15, 07:30, 15:30 and at 17:00....(map)

Nam O Beach
Developed in the early 1960s, Nam O Beach was originally frequented by local people alone. The stilt houses of today were built for tourist purposes and much of its historical charm has been lost. The small community used to support itself by producing firecrackers but since the government imposed a ban on these in 1995, the inventive locals have gone into preparing nuoc nam, a dipping fish sauce, instead. The city of Da Nang is situated 17kms south of Nam O Beach....(map)

The Marble Mountains are famous for their traditional stonemasonry activities. In Dong Hai village close to Thuy Son, 600 families chisel stone statues, jewellery, and art work. China Beach
The sea is good for swimming all year round but especially in summer from May to August because of the mild waves, the water temperature and the beach guard team that works from 05:00 to 20:00 every day to ensure tourist safety. Other activities here are fishing, water-skiing, diving and yachting.

Most beaches are easily accessible including the famous beach used by American soldiers as a RR base, China Beach (or My Khe Beach). This is a long strand with excellent views of the nearby Marble Mountains....(map)
